Interim or short term housing options.
NOTE: Ordway cannot provide direct assistance with an employee’s pursuit of housing. Housing information can be obtained by employees in the following manners:
- The Inn on South Lake. The Inn is located a block away from Ordway at 145 South Lake Avenue, Albany, NY 12208. If you would like to book a reservation, either call them at (518)438-7646 or email them at TheIOSL@nycap.rr.com and tell them you have been referred by Ordway.
- University Heights College Suites. College Suites is located directly behind Ordway at 100 Union Drive, Albany, NY 12208. If you would like to book a reservation either call them at (518) 694-9000 (Fax # 518-694-9001) or you may make a reservation on line at www.uhcollegesuites.com.
- Hotels or Motels. There are many motels and hotels in the Albany area that are available for temporary accommodation. They can be found in the Yellow Pages of the local telephone book.
Types of Housing Available and Typical Costs
These estimates are from the Times Union classifieds. Prices are quoted on either a weekly or monthly basis.
- Furnished Rooms in private homes. Many have bath and kitchen facilities, either for private use or to be shared. They range from $85- $150 (per week), depending on the amenities provided.
- Apartments and Houses to Share: Information can be located in the Times Union classifieds or on the bulletin boards located at Albany Medical College (across from Ordway). The prices range from $300- $1000 per month.
- Studios: Studio apartments are the smallest complete units available. A studio is usually one room with cooking facilities and a bathroom. The prices range from $300- $800.
- Apartments, Houses: Many rental apartments and houses can be found within a 5-mile radius of Ordway. Some require a one-year lease, first and last months’ rent, and/or a security deposit. Near downtown Albany there are a number of older homes converted into apartments. In unfurnished apartments and houses, a stove and a refrigerator are usually provided, and sometimes there is wall-to-wall carpeting. Unfurnished apartments range from $350 to $1050, depending on the number of bedrooms, while furnished apartments range from $495 to $940. An unfurnished house can cost $675-$1450 per month (depending on the number of rooms). Furnished houses are rare to find and usually cost $200-$300 more per month.

- Tri City Rentals. Tri-City Rentals offers rental apartments throughout the Capital District. Ordway employees are eligible to receive a discount on some housing opportunities.
