Position Available:Research Technician I
The Ordway Research Institute Inc., a non-profit biomedical research institute located in Albany, New York, is seeking several energetic and goal oriented full-time Research Technicians to join its Infectious Disease laboratory. The laboratory uses novel microbiological and animal models to optimize treatment outcomes for bacterial and fungal infections. The successful candidates chosen will work primarily on one of two ongoing studies. The first technician will be involved primarily in in-vitro studies aimed at determining the dose and frequency of administration of antibiotics that best optimize treatment outcomes and prevents emergence of resistance for infections caused by bacterial pathogens, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The second technician will employ primarily animal models to develop treatment regimens that optimize treatment outcomes for investigational antimicrobial agents and that prevent emergence of resistance during therapy.
A bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related field. Previous microbiological lab experience preferred but not required. Animal model research experience is a plus as is experience with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Candidates must be able to work collaboratively, analyze scientific results, and prepare oral and written reports. A strong work ethic, excellent oral and written communication skills, and knowledge of modern biomedical research methods are essential. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required.
